Munich Airport Tunnel Construction

Munich Airport is connected by two S-Bahn lines from the west. The Erdinger Ringschluss is a 30.2 km long double-track railway line which will connect Freising with Erding via Munich Airport. The tunnel extension under the airport creates an important link in public transportation in the north of Munich.

The tunnel was built in 2019 mainly by the cut and cover method and is divided into a total of 18 docks. The special feature of this project is the extremely tight timeline in the eastern taxiway area of the satellite terminal. Around 250 m of tunnel is constructed here. As soon as the deconstruction of the taxiway started, only 9 months of construction time were available for the construction of the tunnel structure and the complete re-commissioning of the taxiway.

The tunnel route connects directly to the existing walls of the satellite terminal and runs 1.8 km to the east.
